Preparing for your appointment

To allow you to get the most out of your appointment, we recommend:

  • Bring a list of your current medications

  • Bring along any previous test results if available

  • If you use CPAP or an oral appliance, please bring that too

  • Think about your main concerns and questions ahead of time

If you're attending a sleep consultation, it can also be helpful to consider:

Sleep habits: Your typical sleep pattern – when you go to bed, how long it takes to fall asleep, any nighttime awakenings, and when you wake. Include any unusual or sensitive aspects of your sleep; these conversations are confidential.

Lifestyle factors: Your caffeine and alcohol intake, any medications or stimulants you're taking, and any significant changes in your weight or body shape over recent years.

Health device data: If you use devices that track sleep or health data, please bring the information they've generated.

Bed partner insights: We particularly welcome bed partners or family members to attend if possible – they often notice things you might not, including snoring, pauses in breathing, or other sleep behaviours of relevance.

Your pathway

Sleep Journey

Your sleep medicine journey with us begins when you are referred to our service.

  • Self-referral: If you self-refer, we'll generally seek background information from your GP to ensure we can take a holistic approach to your care.

  • Initial questionnaire: We'll send you an online questionnaire to complete promptly, helping us understand your situation and plan the best timeframe and investigations for your needs.

  • Initial consultation: You'll meet with one of our specialist physicians, who will carefully assess your condition and recommend the specific sleep investigations most suited to you – often involving overnight sleep studies performed in your own home.

  • Results review: Once your test results are ready, you'll return for a detailed discussion where we review the findings together and explore a tailored range of management options.

  • Management options: These may include lifestyle advice, therapeutic devices, weight management support, or behavioural approaches – all chosen specifically for your situation.

  • Ongoing follow-up: We support you through your chosen treatment pathway with continuity of care, working together toward the best possible outcomes for your health.

Immigration Medical Assessment

Patient Journey

Your respiratory assessment for immigration purposes begins with a referral from your GP, who has identified findings on your chest X-ray that require specialist evaluation.

  • What to bring: Please bring a copy of your passport plus any relevant health records and copies of previous imaging or investigations, particularly anything relating to tuberculosis or prior lung health problems.

  • Pre-consultation investigations: We may perform lung function testing or repeat imaging before your consultation, depending on the initial findings.

  • Interpreter requirements: If English is not your first language and you have any difficulties with conversational English, we require that you bring an in-person interpreter to ensure you fully understand our discussion and recommendations.

  • Your consultation: Our specialist physician will thoroughly assess your chest X-ray and any other relevant findings.

  • If tuberculosis is a concern: If there are concerns about a prior history of tuberculosis or possible active tuberculosis (which is quite unusual), there may be a pause in the immigration application process. This does not disadvantage you – it simply allows time for follow-up chest X-rays over a two-to-three-month interval.

  • Reassurance: This process is typically reassuring and demonstrates that there are no acute issues of concern that should influence your immigration application.

  • Our commitment: Throughout this process, we are committed to thorough, careful assessment to support your immigration journey.
